FAQS

The Quran says: “So, now turn your face towards The Sacred Mosque. Wherever you are, turn your face towards it. Those who were given The Book know well that this is the truth from their Lord, and Allah is aware of what they do.”

(Surat al-Baqara, ayat 144)

In Islam, there are four types of prayers: Fard (obligatory prayers), Wajib (required prayers), Sunnat, and Nafl (voluntary prayers).

The total rakats for all 5 prayers are:

  1. 2 rakat Sunnah + 2 rakat obligatory (fard) for Fajr = 4
  2. Dhuhr: 4 rakat Sunnah + 4 rakat obligatory + 2 rakat Sunnah + 2 rakat nafl = 12
  3. Asr: 4 rakat Sunnah + 4 rakat obligatory = 8
  4. 3 rakat obligatory, 2 rakat Sunnah, 2 rakat nafl in Maghrib = 7
  5. Isha: 4 rakat Sunnah + 4 rakat obligatory + 2 rakat Sunnah + 2 rakat nafl + 3 rakat witr wajib + 2 rakat nafl = 17

Following are the mandatory rakats for each prayer:

  • Fajr – 2
  • Zuhr – 4
  • Asr – 4
  • Maghrib – 3
  • Isha’ – 4

The five daily prayers are as follows:

  1. Fajr – prayed at dawn
  2. Dhuhr – prayed at noon
  3. Asr – in the afternoon
  4. Maghrib – sunset
  5. Isha – prayed at night
