Statement of Unity

We offer our sincere condolences to the family of George Floyd and want to show our support for the peaceful Black Lives Matter movement. The Trust Building Forum stands against racism and stresses the need for uniting our communities against this scourge. We must challenge the injustices against everyone. We believe that racism in all its ugly forms is violence against humanity.

Trust Building Forum aims to foster good community relations between Muslims and the wider community, standing for justice, truth, promoting security and peace. We acknowledge the good work of our policemen and women in Nottinghamshire who uphold the principles of justice and make our cities safe.

The Quran, the Holy Book of Islam rejects racism and teaches the common origin of all humans from Adam and Eve. The Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) taught ‘no one is superior over another just because of his/her colour or tribe but only by good deeds, actions and piety.’

This is a time to make a commitment to assess and evaluate our values with regards to the nuts and bolts of racism and rejecting the points below:

  • being judgemental
  • stereotyping
  • subconscious biases
  • discrimination based on culture, creed and class

Let’s honour the memory of George Floyd by ridding ourselves of these vices and pursuing equality and justice.
