A memorable journey of learning and exchange, hosted by the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet)

Karimia Institute is honoured to share news of a remarkable scholarly delegation undertaken in collaboration with the British Fatwa Council, graciously hosted by the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) in Turkey.

Throughout the visit, the delegation engaged deeply with both classical and contemporary Islamic legal theory. Particular attention was given to understanding how Diyanet, one of the world’s largest religious institutions, serves society at a national level: answering public questions, issuing fatwas, and providing religious guidance rooted in scholarship and care for the community.

The delegation witnessed a scholarly tradition that is not only academically rigorous but profoundly spiritual, firmly anchored in the Hanafi school of thought and enlivened by a culture of Islamic tarbiyah and inner refinement.

What made this journey truly special was the spirit in which it was undertaken. Scholars personally covered their own travel costs, motivated purely by the love of learning, service, and the pursuit of beneficial knowledge.

This is the kind of selfless dedication that has always driven Islamic scholarship forward, and it was humbling for all involved to witness it in action.

To sit with such distinguished scholars, exchange ideas, and draw from their accumulated wisdom was a privilege not taken lightly. These encounters serve as a reminder of what Islamic scholarship truly is: a living, breathing tradition that crosses borders, unites hearts, and serves humanity.

The delegation returned with renewed conviction that such connections, between scholars, institutions, and communities, are essential for the wellbeing of the Ummah and the future of Islamic thought in Britain and beyond.
