Back to Our Roots (Launch of Pilot Project)‏

An overall outlook at as to how Wednesday went is probably the best way to look at it for those who were unable to be present. I would like to think the overall consensus of everybody who attended was that the Event went off well and the weather seemed to behave itself impeccably! One of course must remember that this was launching the Pilot project which is primarily aimed at encouraging the young people from Base 51 to grow vegetables. To this end we were extremely lucky in having the support of Base 51 as well as the blessing of the Rev Chris Harrison and the Rev Dr Richard Davey who have kindly agreed to allow us to use the small piece of land at the back of All Saints. This will be very much a trial run and will certainly help us evaluate how we are to proceed. Those who attended the Launch came from a wide range of Rural and Urban backgrounds and it was indeed a great pleasure to see such a wonderful mix of people who, ordinarily would not neccesarily spend time together. After speeches from the Sherrif of Nottingham, Councillor Merlita Bryan and Nottinghamshie Farmer and National Farmers Union County Chairman Rob Shaw the project was launched with the young Diggers being shown the way by the well known Hotelier and Restauranteur Tim Hart who later in the year will be teaching them how to cook their own vegetables. Chief Executive of Base 51, Janet Lewis outlined the Charity’s support for the project and to the young people that are undertaking to take on the work. The Revd Chris Harrison and Dr Musharraf Hussain al – Azhari, the Chief Iman to the Karimia Institute brought the afternoons proceedings to a close before tea was served in All Saints Church.
